The Gubener Warraschke is an old apple variety from Guben and Gubin in Niederlausitz . The variety is still widespread in allotments in the region today. The universal apple is primarily processed into must and Guben apple wine .
Variety characteristics
The Gubener Warraschke is a typical flat apple, small and compact in shape, yellowish and reddish in color. Its meat is unusually crumbly and juicy for a flat apple, the taste is slightly spicy and sweet-wine-sour. The variety is ready to be picked from mid-October, ready for consumption from December and can be stored until May.
Guben Appelfest
Every year Guben celebrates a folk festival that commemorates the longstanding tradition of fruit growing in the region. In addition to the choice of an apple queen, the focus of the “Guben Appelfest” is also the local apple variety Warraschke. The Warraschke was and is together with the Kaschaker , a variety bred in Guben around the same time, the basis for Guben apple juice and cider.
