The 1966/67 season was the fourth season of the men's German Bundesliga . German champions were Eintracht Braunschweig , the top scorers were Lothar Emmerich from Borussia Dortmund and Gerd Müller from FC Bayern Munich with 28 goals each.
Season overview
The team from Eintracht Braunschweig managed to stay clean in half of all games and won the championship ahead of defending champion TSV 1860 Munich and last year's winner in the European Cup Winners' Cup Borussia Dortmund . The fifth place for 1. FC Kaiserslautern was also surprising . The 1. FC Köln , the first Bundesliga champion in 1964, and Werder Bremen , champions in 1965, disappointed and ended only in positions 7 and 16. The two newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf and Rot-Weiss Essen occupied the last two places, thus increasing right back from.

Special features of the season
The Meidericher SV became (during the course of the season) the MSV Duisburg through a name change .
Borussia Mönchengladbach's 11-0 win against FC Schalke 04 was the first double-digit result in the Bundesliga.
At the reigning champions TSV 1860 Munich there was a player revolt in December 1966, which led to the dismissal of trainer Max Merkel after a secret ballot by the players, which ended 16: 1 against the coach . The trigger was the weeks-long, sometimes debilitating, gossip by Merkel about his team. As a result of the revolt, Adalbert Wetzel resigned as head of the football department.
Rudolf Brunnenmeier had to serve a two-week prison sentence during the season for a fight.
Timo Konietzka was banned for six months because he allegedly assaulted the referee during a game.
When Borussia Dortmund played against Schalke 04 in the Rote Erde stadium on November 12, 1966, thick fog suddenly appeared in the second half with visibility below 20 meters. The game continued anyway and ended 6-2 for BVB. The four goals in the second half were not visible to most of the spectators.
