Jäcker first played football for VfL Schwerte from 1949 . He started as a handball goalkeeper and was used as a soccer player up to the B youth as a center forward. After a goalkeeper failed, Jäcker played in this position in the VfL youth team. At the age of 17 he made his debut in the national league in the first team of VfL Schwerte. During his studies at the Sports University in Cologne, he played as a goalkeeper in the university team under Hennes Weisweiler .

In 1955 he moved to 1. FC Köln , where he was under contract for one season until 1956. There he earned 160 DM a month. Since he did not feel comfortable at 1. FC Köln, he accepted the offer of the then trainer of Eintracht Braunschweig Kurt Baluses to switch to Eintracht in 1956 . From 1956 to 1967 he was a goalkeeper at Eintracht Braunschweig . In 1963, Jäcker was a member of the team that was accepted into the newly founded Bundesliga . He had his greatest sporting success in 1967 when Eintracht Braunschweig became German champions . In the meantime, national player Horst Wolter was the club's regular goalkeeper, and Jäcker made two appearances during the season. That year he ended his active football career after 265 games. He then coached the club's A-youth from 1968 to 1972.

He later worked as a coach at the football club Leu Braunschweig , with which he was promoted to the Regionalliga Nord . From 1980 to 1983 Jäcker was President of Eintracht Braunschweig.

Life apart from football

Hennes Jäcker was district mayor of the Braunschweig district of Mascherode and a member of the FDP on the city council. In the 1969 federal election he ran unsuccessfully for the FDP on their Lower Saxony state list. In the 1970s he worked as a teacher for Latin and sports at the Gaußschule in Braunschweig.

Until his death, Hennes Jäcker was managing director of a mother and child health clinic in Glowe on Rügen .
