Joachim Bäse (born September 2, 1939 in Braunschweig - Rühme ) is a former German soccer player who played for Eintracht Braunschweig from 1959 to 1973 .

Player career

Bäse was born in the Braunschweig district of Rühme and started playing football in the neighboring town of Wenden at the local FC.

In 1959, the trained chef began his career as a professional footballer at Eintracht Braunschweig. For Eintracht he initially had 87 appearances in the Oberliga Nord - at that time the highest German division - and scored 26 goals there. In 1963 Bäse was part of the Eintracht team that started as one of three teams in the Oberliga Nord in the newly introduced Bundesliga . In the following years he played 234 games as a libero and midfielder in the Bundesliga team and scored five goals. In 1967 he had the outstanding climax of his footballing career when he and his team became German football champions . In the 1966/67 season, Bäse was the captain of the championship team. In the following season he made it to the quarter-finals with Eintracht in the European Cup of National Champions in 1967/68 , in the following years he came to ten other European Cup matches.

On May 8, 1968 Bäse came in the German national team in their 329th game used. The first international match against Wales - it took place in the Welsh capital Cardiff and ended 1-1 - was his only one.

In 1971, Bäse was involved in the Bundesliga scandal with 14 other Eintracht players . He then ended his career in professional football and then helped out at his home club FC Wenden.

Joachim Bäse played a total of 321 point games for Eintracht Braunschweig from 1959 to 1973, making him one of the club's record players ; he scored 31 goals. He was also used 15 times in the DFB club cup and scored two goals in this competition. There were also eleven appearances in the European Cup.

Further professional life

After the end of his active career, Bäse lived in the Braunschweig district of Thune and worked as a food controller for the city of Braunschweig.
