The Southwest German Football Association - Association for competitive, popular and recreational sports e. V. , or SWFV for short, is one of the 21 regional associations of the German Football Association . The association is based in Edenkoben . The area of ​​the SWFV covers southern Rhineland-Palatinate . It extends from the French border ( Alsace ) on the left bank of the Rhine to Bacharach , continues north of the Soon Idar forest to the state border with Saarland and the French border. The area includes the districts of Mainz-Bingen , Bad Kreuznach , Alzey-Worms , Birkenfeld , the Donnersbergkreis , Bad Dürkheim , Kusel , Kaiserslautern , the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis , Germersheim , Südwestpfalz and the district Südliche Weinstrasse as well as the independent cities of Mainz , Kaiserslautern , Worms , Frankenthal , Ludwigshafen , Speyer , Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , Landau in the Palatinate , Pirmasens and Zweibrücken . Together with the regional associations of Rhineland and Saarland , the SWFV forms the Southwest Football Regional Association .

In addition to the four-time German champions 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the current first division club 1. FSV Mainz 05 , the traditional clubs Wormatia Worms , FK Pirmasens and Phönix Ludwigshafen (today part of SV Südwest Ludwigshafen ) belong to the Southwest German Football Association.

The SWFV has 1,034 associations with a total of 227,444 members. 5,387 teams take part in the game.

Association structure

The association is divided into 10 regional football associations :

  • Pirmasens-Zweibrücken district

Until 2010 the association consisted of 16 districts. The following groups merged as part of a structural reform:

  • Alzey and Worms to Alzey-Worms
  • Donnersberg and Kaiserslautern (eastern part) to Kaiserslautern-Donnersberg
  • Kusel and Kaiserslautern (western part) to Kusel-Kaiserslautern
  • Bingen and Mainz to Mainz-Bingen
  • Frankenthal and Ludwigshafen to Rhine-Palatinate
  • Neustadt / Weinstrasse and Speyer to Rhein-Mittelhaardt
  • Southern Wine Route and Southern Palatinate to Southern Palatinate

Until 2012 there was a district level between the association and the districts with their own administrative bodies. It was abolished in order to strengthen the districts (among other things, the district chairmen are now members of the association's executive committee). The districts (Nahe, Rheinhessen, Vorderpfalz and Westpfalz) are now only used for geographical delimitation in the district and state leagues. They include the following groups:

  • District Nahe (District League Nahe, part of the Landesliga West)
    districts Bad Kreuznach and Birkenfeld
  • District of Rheinhessen (District League Rheinhessen, part of the Landesliga Ost)
    districts of Alzey-Worms and Mainz-Bingen
  • District of Vorderpfalz (District League Vorderpfalz, part of the Landesliga Ost)
    districts of Rhein-Mittelhaardt, Rhein-Pfalz and Südpfalz
  • District West Palatinate (District League West Palatinate, part of the Landesliga West)
    Districts Kaiserslautern-Donnersberg, Kusel-Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens-Zweibrücken

Competitions and divisions

The Association League Southwest is the highest class in the championship game operation . Among them, the regional league plays in the East (districts of Rheinhessen and Vorderpfalz) and West (districts of Nahe and Westpfalz). These include four district leagues , which have also represented an association class since the districts disappeared. Under the district league, there are 10 A-classes as the highest league at the district level , to which a total of 20 B-classes and 29 C-classes are subordinate. There are also 3 D classes in the Südpfalz district .

The association also organizes the Bitburger association cup.

Competitions and divisions women's football

The highest division at association level is the Association League Southwest . Based on the former districts, the four regional leagues Nahe, Rheinhessen, Vorderpfalz and Westpfalz follow. This fifth highest German league level is also the lowest division in the Nahe area. In the other three areas, there are the district leagues Vorderpfalz, Westpfalz Nord and Westpfalz Süd , which are organized as association classes, as well as the district leagues Vorderpfalz and Rheinhessen for teams of 9.

The SWFV is also the organizer of the Association Cup Southwest.
