The SV Gonsenheim 1919 is a football club from the Mainz district Gonsenheim . In the first post-war years, the SVG played first class for two years. Currently (2019/20 season) the club plays in the fifth-class Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar.

history

The club was founded in 1919 as FK Viktoria Gonsenheim . In the same year, FC Germania 1915 Gonsenheim joined. At the same time the club was renamed to SV Gonsenheim . After the forced dissolution in 1945, the SG Gonsenheim was founded, in which not only the SVG, but also the TV Gonsenheim was continued. In 1949 the collective association split again into SV and TV.

Sporting development

The Gonsenheimers came to short regional importance in the 1934/35 season, when they played for a year in the district class Rheinhessen, the immediate substructure of the Gauliga Südwest, but were relegated with a clear lag. In 1947 the SG Gonsenheim moved into the Oberliga Südwest-Nord , in which it was also unsuccessful. In the first year the relegation was barely prevented, in the second one had to leave the league with 6:42 points and 19:10 goals. Until 1959 and 1964/65 and from 1967 to 1971 the Gonsenheimers mostly stayed in the lower regions of the amateur league.

In 2005, the club rose under the direction of coach Jürgen Collet in the (then) fifth-class Verbandsliga Südwest , in which he reached third place in the first year and was long considered a candidate for promotion to the league. In the 2009/10 season, the Gonsenheimers were then champions in the association league and rose to the Oberliga Südwest (since 2012/13: Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar ). There they were able to establish themselves in the midfield. But in the 2017/2018 season, relegation could not be prevented and SV Gonsenheim played in the Southwest Football Association. There he was directly promoted to the league again.

The Gonsenheimer juniors have been the only Mainz teams in the south-west regional leagues alongside the Mainz 05 junior team for years.

sports ground

sports ground

The sports facility at the end of Kapellenstrasse / Am Sportfeld and in the immediate vicinity of the Lennebergwald currently consists of a small and a large field, both of which are provided with artificial turf. The Gonsenheim artificial turf, which is filled with sand, was one of the first of its kind in the Mainz area and is therefore quite obsolete. Due to this and due to the impressive successes of the youth department and the high-class active area, the city of Mainz wants to ensure that the fun in Gonsenheim remains unbroken with a new place in the next few years. In the summer of 2010, the worn artificial turf was replaced with a new type of artificial turf suitable for the upper league with the support of Schott AG .
