Arminia Ludwigshafen (full name: Football Club Arminia 03 eV ) is a football club from the industrial city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

The club was founded in 1903 as 1. FC Arminia Rheingönheim. In the time of National Socialism he went on in the large club TSG Rheingönheim. After the Second World War , the club was first re-established as VfL Rheingönheim and initially played in the Landesliga Vorderpfalz, the then highest amateur class. In the 1947/48 season, the club finished tenth and in the 1948/49 season seventh. From 1949 the club was again called FC Arminia Rheingönheim. In the 1949/50 season , the club reached the second, in the 1950/51 season the eleventh and in the 1951/52 season again the eleventh place. This was not enough for the qualification for the new 1st Amateur League Southwest so that Arminia Rheingönheim then played in the 2nd Amateur League.

In 1966 the club rose again to the highest amateur class in the southwest and stayed there for nine years. The club has been called Arminia Ludwigshafen since 1969 , but has retained its traditional club crest with the letters F, C, A and R. In the 1969/70 season , fourth place was the best placement of this time. After several years in the district league Vorderpfalz, the Arminia rose in 1988 to the district league. In 1995 he returned to the district league. But just like in the 1998/99 season, the guest appearance in the district league lasted only one year.

In 2005, Arminia returned to the Association League Southwest three times in a row. In 2011 he was promoted to the Oberliga Südwest for the first time , which was renamed Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar at the beginning of the 2012/13 season . In the first league game year 2011/12 , the club finished fourth as a promoted team. In the following season 2012/13 Arminia reached the 6th place. In the 2016/17 season , Arminia missed relegation in tenth place in the table and had to relegate to the association league.

In the 2017/18 season , the direct promotion to the Oberliga Südwest took place, which was determined after a 0-0 win against Hassia Bingen on the penultimate matchday.

Stadion

The club has been playing its home games at the Rheingönheim district sports facility since 1977. Games are occasionally played in the Südweststadion in Ludwigshafen.
