The Tus Mechtersheim is a sports club from about Römerberg at Speyer belonging suburb Mechtersheim .

history

The association was founded on March 1, 1914 in the Gasthaus zum Stern as Viktoria Mechtersheim . The club, which was re-established as the Mechtersheim Sports Club after the First World War , was given its current name Turn- und Sportverein 1914 eV Mechtersheim in 1930 . On August 1, 1914, the mobilization interrupted the club's activities.

On November 14, 1919, it was re-established as the Mechtersheim sports club . From March 1920, the Lingenfeld meadows were leased as sports grounds. In 1923 the association became district champion of the Speyer district. In March 1924 a new playing field was completed in the gravel holes. In 1925 the club was again district champion. In 1930 the first team and both youth teams became champions in their classes. In 1930 the athletics department was founded and the club was renamed Turn- und Sportverein 1914 eV Mechtersheim . In 1931 the construction of the clubhouse was completed. During the Second World War , the game was suspended and the club was dissolved. On February 15, 1946, it was re-established as ASV Mechtersheim . The women's handball team was founded on October 21, 1946. On March 11, 1950, the name was changed back to Turn- und Sportverein 1914 eV Mechtersheim . In 1960 the association became district cup winners. In 1962 a new lawn was built. In 1968 and 1977 the club became champions of the B-Class Speyer. 1980 and 1986 the club reached the championship of the A-class Speyer.

TuS Mechtersheim played in lower-class amateur leagues until the end of the 1990s. The upswing of the club began with the rise in 1999 in the Landesliga Ost and in 2001 in the Verbandsliga Südwest . With the championship in the Association League Southwest, the gymnastics and sports club rose in 2004 for the first time in the Oberliga Südwest . He was relegated in the 2014/15 season and immediately returned to the renamed Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar as champion of the Association League Southwest. In the 2015/16 season, the newcomer in the league immediately took 4th place in the table.
