Mechtersheim is one of three districts of the local community Römerberg in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Mechtersheim is located in the southern part of the local community. The Aue Black Forest is located southeast of the settlement area .
history
Mechtersheim belonged to the Electoral Palatinate until the French Revolution . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Mechtersheim was incorporated into the Canton of Speyer . Then the place changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 he was a member of the Landkommissariat Speyer ; from this the district office of Speyer emerged. In 1928 Mechtersheim had 1,326 inhabitants who lived in 236 residential buildings. The Protestants owned a local parish at the time, while the Catholics belonged to that of Heiligenstein . From 1938 the place was part of the district of Speyer . After the Second World War , Mechtersheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform, Mechtersheim was merged on June 7, 1969 with the neighboring communities of Heiligenstein and Berghausen to form the new local community of Römerberg (Pfalz) . At the same time, the place changed to the district of Ludwigshafen, which has been called Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis since 2004 .
Naming
As with many other places, the place names varied considerably over the centuries. In ancient maps we find first the name New Holland , the z in French cards. B. by Cesar-Francois Cassini (1714–1784) was given as petite holande . On a map by Matthäus Seutter (1678–1757) about the siege of Phillipsburg in 1734, Mechtersheim was given two names: Meckerstein or New Holland . The name we know today was then consolidated in later maps: Mechtersheim.
Infrastructure
The Protestant Peace Church is located on site . The soccer department of TuS Mechtersheim played in the league from 2004 to 2015 and returned to it in the following season.
