The Eisbachtaler Sportfreunde from 1919 are a football club from the Westerwald based in Nentershausen . In addition to football , the "polar bears" also play table tennis .

history

The Sportfreunde emerged on July 1, 1966 as a youth game community of the clubs SC Großholbach, TuS Girod-Kleinholbach, VfR Nomborn, TuS Heilberscheid and TuS Nentershausen. According to the oldest of these original clubs, the club states 1919 as the year of foundation. From 1972 on, the club played in the second-rate Regionalliga Südwest . Due to the establishment of the 2nd Bundesliga , the club was classified in the amateur class in 1974, in 1978 it was a founding member of the new amateur Oberliga Südwest , where it stayed until 1986 .

After the recovery in 1990, the sports fans established themselves again in the upper league and were several times close to promotion to the regional league. Both 1995 and 1998 they finished second in the Oberliga Südwest. In 2003 the Eisbachtaler went down again and after an apparent establishment in the Rhineland League, it surprisingly went down again in the district league in 2007. 2008 succeeded the direct promotion after the relegation, for which one had qualified as second in the district league. Three game days before the end of the season, Eisbachtal was established as Rhineland champions in the 2008/09 season and thus managed to return to the now fifth-class Oberliga Südwest. After two years, the Westerwald rose as the bottom of the league table but again from the Rhineland League.

Sportfreunde Eisbachtal have qualified for the DFB Cup main round seven times in the past . Twice the club reached the second round, in 1976/77 they lost to Hassia Bingen 0: 4 and in 1998/99 after a first round victory over FC Gütersloh a 1: 4 defeat against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in front of 2500 spectators. The DFB Cup duels against FC Schalke 04 , which the sports fans were drawn to twice, will remain a special memory . In 1979 they lost to the Royal Blues with a goal by Klaus Fischer with 0: 1 in front of 6,700 spectators and in 1985 the club had to admit defeat just 1: 2 in front of 7,200 visitors.
