Arno Glesius (born September 22, 1965 in Koblenz ) is a former German soccer player .

The son of a winemaker, who grew up in the Lower Moselle, played in his youth for the clubs SSV Oberfell , TuS Koblenz and TuS Mayen (until 1984). In his first two years with the seniors he gained playing experience with the Eisbachtaler Sportfreunde (Amateur Oberliga Südwest, 1984/85) and at FV Bad Honnef (Amateur Oberliga Nordrhein, 1985/86).

In the summer of 1986 he was signed by the second division club Karlsruher SC , where Winfried Schäfer started as a coach at the beginning of the 1986/87 season. At this point in time, after numerous changes between the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga, the club was in a financial crisis and could only afford reinforcements from the youth and amateur camps. In addition to goalkeeper Alexander Famulla and defender Rüdiger Patzschke , striker Glesius was one of three newcomers who were able to secure a place in the regular team this season. Glesius scored his first goal on matchday five at the away game in Ulm, in a total of 35 appearances he scored 14 goals in his first year as a professional. Despite a mixed first half of the season, in which the KSC sometimes only attracted 6,000 spectators to the wildlife park, the team finished second at the end of the round and was promoted to the Bundesliga. Even for the Bundesliga season 1987/88 , the club could not afford any prominent new signings, and last year's internal top scorer Rainer Schütterle had switched to VfB Stuttgart. It was Arno Glesius who scored the most goals for Baden with nine goals this round. The last of these was also the most important: On matchday 34, his goal in the 88th minute to equalize 1: 1 against Eintracht Frankfurt secured KSC staying in the Bundesliga.

In the following season 1988/89 Schäfer put on the same regular formation, Glesius fell through an injury almost the entire second half of the season and came in this season only to 17 games and four goals. He could then no longer play his way back into the starting eleven of Baden. In 1989/90 he only made 14 appearances (1 goal), only one of which over the full playing time, and in 1990/91 he was more of a supplementary player than a regular player despite 22 games (6 goals), also because the competition in the KSC offensive by newcomers ( Carl and returnees Schütterle) as well as own offspring ( Sternkopf , Scholl ) had meanwhile grown significantly. After another year in Karlsruhe with only 2 games (1 goal), he left the KSC in the summer of 1992.

His subsequent stations were the Bundesliga promoted 1. FC Saarbrücken (1992/93), who had to leave the House of Lords after only one year, and the second division 1. FSV Mainz 05 . There he had to end his career in 1995 after a serious knee injury.

Arno Glesius scored 21 goals in a total of 90 Bundesliga games. In the 2nd Bundesliga he was successful 21 times in 72 games. The sporting successes include the promotion to the Bundesliga in 1987 and 4 U-21 international matches (3 goals) in the same year.

On November 6th, 2009, Arno Glesius was elected as vice-president of the association alongside Rolf Hauer at the general meeting of the Karlsruher SC . On September 20, 2010, he resigned from this office.

Private

The trained wholesale and foreign trade merchant had been a commercial administrator at an accident insurance company since 2001 . Arno Glesius is married and has three children.

In June 2012, allegations of fraud against Glesius became known. Together with a second defendant, he is said to have embezzled around 134,000 euros from his employer. The trial began on February 3, 2015, and on March 18, he was sentenced to one year and ten months probation.
