Stefan Malz (born June 15, 1972 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a former German football player and coach.

Athletic career

In his youth, Malz played for SV Pfingstweide, Blau-Weiß Oppau and then at Südwest Ludwigshafen . The first professional club was SV Darmstadt 98 in the 1992/93 season . He made his professional debut on August 7, 1992 against Wuppertaler SV (0: 3). For the first time he was on the list of goalscorers on the 15th matchday in the game against SC Freiburg (1-1). However, the season ended with the 24th and last place and Malz left the club.

About the VfR Mannheim ( Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and Regionalliga Süd ) he moved in 1997 to the Bundesliga for TSV 1860 Munich . Under coach Werner Lorant , Malz was able to establish himself in the first division, but played no role in Lorant's further squad planning after a disappointing second half of the season in 1998/99 , in which the club only scored ten points.

This was followed by a move to Arsenal in 1999 , which turned out to be too big for Malz. After only six appearances in the Premier League , he moved back to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga in 2001. Malz was only used sporadically at FCK in the period that followed, and he also had to contend with injuries. After Malz criticized FCK coach Kurt Jara internally in December 2004 , he was relegated to the second team and then asked for his contract to be terminated.

In early 2005 he went to Arminia Ludwigshafen , a planned move to Australia to Newcastle United Jets failed. His last club was from 2006 the south-west upper division FSV Oggersheim , with whom he rose to the regional league in 2007 . At the end of the 2007/08 season, he ended his career.

From January 2005 to May 2006 Malz was the player-coach of FC Arminia Ludwigshafen 03 and held the job until May 2006. On February 21, 2008 he became the new assistant coach of the women's second division club 1. FFC 08 Niederkirchen . There he was released on November 2, 2012.
