The state football association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (LFV) is one of the 21 state associations of the German Football Association and one of six members in the regional association of the Northeast German Football Association . As such, the LFV forms the umbrella organization for all 469 football clubs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 58,894 members and 1,933 teams. In addition, the LFV is a member of the State Sports Association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and sponsor of the Parchim sports school. The LFV is based in Rostock and is chaired by Joachim Masuch.

The association's highest division is the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association League , followed by the State League and the State Class. The most important tournament is the MV-Pokal , which qualifies for direct participation in the DFB-Pokal .

history

A Mecklenburg (is) er football association was first founded in December 1904. Initially it had three member clubs and in April 1905 it joined the newly founded North German Football Association and thus the DFB. As District IV (Mecklenburg) of the NFV, it also gained clubs from Western Pomerania from 1907.

In 1922 a structural reform u. a. the districts of Lübeck-Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz-Western Pomerania emerged, but the Western Pomerania clubs left the North German Football Association in 1925 and joined the Baltic Association . The Lübeck-Mecklenburg district, however, remained together in the (then dissolved) NFV until 1933. The district's championship title was always won by clubs from Lübeck with the exception of 1925 and 1933, when Schwerin 03 won the title. Hugo Schmidt from Schwerin was one of the first three honorary members of the NFV, which held three of its association days in Rostock and Schwerin .

After the dissolution of the regional associations of the DFB in 1933, the district belonged to the Sportgau Nordmark . In 1937 Lübeck was assigned to the Schleswig-Holstein district and from 1942 there was a separate Gau Mecklenburg . This ended the affiliation to the north, which was not possible to restore when the NFV was re-established in 1948 due to the borders at the time and which did not come back after 1990 either.

In the Soviet occupation zone and then in the GDR , national champions were determined from 1948 to 1952. The Mecklenburg regional class was the second highest, then the third highest division in 1949/50, before the GDR federal states were dissolved and the regional football classes with them.

In the course of German reunification , the district committee chairmen and managing directors of the districts of Rostock , Neubrandenburg and Schwerin met in Güstrow in March 1990 and prepared the foundation of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state football association. On July 14, 1990, the 112 delegates of the three district technical committees and the 36 district technical committees confirmed the draft statutes and the required regulations, Günther Waak was elected the first president of the LFV.

As a result of the district reform that followed, the number of district associations was reduced from 36 to 15; since the Stralsund district football association joined the North Western Pomerania association, there have been 14 district football associations. In 2009 there was another district reform. The association area has since been divided into the three districts West, North and East, which in turn include the districts of Schwerin-Nordwestmecklenburg, Westmecklenburg, Warnow, Nordvorpommern-Rügen, Mecklenburg Lake District and Vorpommern-Greifswald.

Competitions

Men's

The association's highest league in the men's area is the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association League with 16 teams, which is one of the sixth highest divisions in the German league system . Your respective master is entitled to promotion to the fifth-class Oberliga Nordost . The regional league, which has been played in three seasons of 14 teams each since the 2009/10 season, and whose respective champions replace the three relegated league teams, is ranked under the association league. The most important cup competition in the men's area is the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Cup , the winner of which is generally eligible to participate in the DFB Cup .

In the A- and B-Juniors category, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Association League is the highest division at the end of the association and, if necessary, entitles it to promotion to the second-rate Northeast Regional League in Germany. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup will also be played, which entitles the A youth to participate in the DFB Junior Club Cup and the B youth to participate in the NOFV Cup .

From the 2017/18 season, the league system in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was changed due to the falling number of clubs. The national league is then only represented in two seasons and the national class in four seasons.

Women

In women's football, too, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern-Pokal is the most important cup competition at the association's end and entitles the holder to participate in the DFB Cup . The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association League, which is also the highest league in the association's territory for women, is, in contrast to men's football, one of the fourth-highest league in the German system. Your master can accordingly move up to the third-class Regionalliga Nordost .

In the field of B-Juniors , the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association League is the highest division of the association, the champions of which may be eligible for promotion to the B-Juniors Bundesliga Northeast North . The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup is also the most important cup competition in the association's territory for the B-Juniors.

Beach soccer

In beach soccer, the MV Beach Soccer Tour has been held on the beaches of several seaside resorts in the country since 2014 . In 2014, 2015 and 2016, the Rostock seals team was victorious, which also plays at the top level across Germany.
