The Hochschulsportgemeinschaft Warnemünde ( HSG Warnemünde ) is a sports club from Rostock in the Warnemünde district . The HSG Warnemünde was founded in Rostock in August 1971. It has a total of 400 members in ten sports departments - the largest in numbers is the water polo department with almost 90 members.

The club engages in both elite and popular sports . In addition to water polo , the club's departments include swimming , badminton , sailing , gymnastics , bowling , basketball , soccer , handball and volleyball .

Water polo

The water polo division is the most successful division of the club. After being promoted from the 4th division in 1997, the HSG Warnemünde played in the third-class Regionalliga Nord until the 2005/2006 season. In the 2005/2006 season, as a result of a nationwide league reform, the water polo players were promoted to the 2nd Water Polo League North (formerly Regionalliga Nord) and promptly reached third place in their first year. After a change in personnel, they played in the third-class Oberliga Schleswig-Holstein / Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from 2010, but were promoted to the second division north from the 2014/2015 season . They were able to finish this successful year of promotion in 3rd place overall. The club's training and game venue is the Neptun swimming pool in Kopernikusstraße, right next to the FC Hansa Rostock football stadium .

Soccer

The football department of the HSG Warnemünde comprises two men's teams, one women's team and a C-youth team. For the 2018/19 season, the first men's team will play in the regional class season 3, the second team will play in the district class season 1 Warnow. In 2018/2019 the women are members of the AOK Association League, the highest league at state level. In 2019, the women's team won the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup and qualified for the DFB Cup .

The teams' venue is the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Warnemünde. The facility includes 2 artificial turf pitches, a grass pitch and a 3-field sports hall. The HSG shares the sports park with SV Warnemünde .
