The TSG Neustrelitz is a sports club with the departments soccer , chess and gymnastics from Neustrelitz in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . In 2008 it had around 400 members. The city's sports facilities are available to the club, such as the Park Stadium with a capacity of 7,000. TSG were champions of the 2013/14 season in the Regionalliga Nordost .

A football club was founded as early as 1919, which offered other sports and then renamed itself the Neustrelitz sports club . SV Viktoria Neustrelitz was established in 1925, and the Corso Viktoria Neustrelitz sports club merged with Corso Strelitz in 1931 . In 1945, after the end of the Second World War, it was banned by the Soviet occupying forces and dissolved at the end of the same year.

The establishment of a loosely organized sports community was allowed to continue the sports business, which was initially able to organize competitions in various sports on a very limited local level. After the East German sports system was reorganized in company sports associations (BSG) from 1948 , the Neustrelitz trading companies founded BSG Konsum Neustrelitz around 1950 by taking over the previous SG . It offered a wide range of sports, of which the soccer section GDR-wide could draw attention to itself. After the establishment of the central sports association Empor for trade and supply in 1951, the BSG was named Empor Neustrelitz . In 1971, the machine computing company took over the sponsorship of the BSG, which then appeared as BSG MR Neustrelitz . In 1975 other companies took over the sponsorship and the company sports community became the gymnastics and sports community (TSG) Neustrelitz .

When, after the economic changes due to the political change of 1989, the system of the previous sports sponsorship could no longer be continued, the TSG took on the status of a registered association in 1990 , which is mainly maintained through sponsorship and public funding.

Development of the sport of football

GDR soccer

Although a soccer club already existed in Neustrelitz in 1919, soccer never got beyond local importance in the city until the 1950s. When the third-class district league Neubrandenburg was founded in 1952 , the BSG Empor Neustrelitz was one of the ten founding communities. Until 1957, the Neustrelitzer occupied more or less good midfield places. When in 1958 the now fourth-class district league was divided into two groups, the BSG Empor won the relay in their group, won the district championship in three finals against Lok Anklam and thus qualified for the second GDR league . There the Mecklenburgers could only hold out for one season and from 1960 played again in the district league. In 1963 Neustrelitz won the final of the district championship with a 5-0 victory over ASG Vorwärts Löcknitz and also won the promotion round to the GDR league . Then Empor Neustrelitz was stripped of the district championship title and the team remained in the district league. A year later, Empor fought for the district championship with 1: 1 and 6: 1 against Lok Anklam and then won the promotion round to the second-rate GDR league. Although competing with the later league player Joachim Ernst , the Guinean Chérif Souleymane , who came from the league promoted SC Neubrandenburg , and the Soviet guest player Genadij Petrow, Empor Neustrelitz could not hold himself in the GDR league, and rose again after a year in the district league. Despite another two district championships in 1967 and 1968, the Neustrelitzer remained in the district league until 1976. It was not until the summer of 1976 that BSG MR Neustrelitz succeeded in renewed and now direct promotion to the GDR league after the fifth district championship. But even in the second attempt it was not enough to stay in the league. Then TSG Neustrelitz commuted between the district and GDR leagues until 1982, before the team finally relegated to the district league in 1982 for the rest of the GDR football game operations. In its GDR league years 1978/79, 1979/80 and 1981/82, TSG Neustrelitz, whose venue was then called the “Stadium of German-Soviet Friendship”, caused a sensation with its numerous Soviet guest players, soldiers from the Soviet garrison stationed in Neustrelitz . TSG Neustrelitz finished the last GDR district league season in third place.

In the competition for the GDR soccer cup , the Neustrelitz BSG'n played 13 times. The BSG Empor came furthest in 1963/64 when they advanced to the second round. There, the Neustrelitzers were defeated by the GDR champions SC Motor Jena in their own stadium by 1: 2.

Football from 1991

In 1991 TSG Neustrelitz was promoted to the then fourth-class Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association League . After relegation had to be played in the state league in 1995/96. Then the TSG managed to march through the association league in the now fourth-class Oberliga Nordost . The team was able to stay there until 2000. In 2002 they returned to the league, since 2008 fifth division. In 2012 TSG was promoted to the new Regionalliga Nordost .

In 2007, 2008 and 2013 TSG Neustrelitz won the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup and thus qualified for the first main round of the DFB Cup . There they lost in 2007 the Karlsruher SC 0: 2 after extra time, in 2008 the TSV 1860 Munich with 0: 2 and 2013 the Bundesliga side SC Freiburg also with 0: 2 after extra time.

In the Regionalliga Nordost, TSG played so successfully in the 2013/14 season that the club was already the champions after the 28th matchday. This allowed TSG Neustrelitz to take part in the promotion to the 3rd league . There the team met the second team of 1. FSV Mainz 05 , which took second place in the Regionalliga Südwest after SC Freiburg and its second team had renounced a possible participation in the relegation games in advance. However, the first and second leg were lost (0: 2, 1: 3), so that promotion was missed.

In the following two years, TSG Neustrelitz ended the season in 8th place, with the team distinguished by its home strength. They finished the 2016/17 season in 18th and last place. Although they have been relegated in terms of sport, TSG remains in the Regionalliga, as two teams from the Regionalliga Nordost withdrew with the second team from RB Leipzig and FC Schönberg 95 .

Second team

TSG Neustrelitz II played in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league (East Staffel) for a long time before being promoted to the association league in 2015 . The Association League season 2015/16 ended in 8th place in the table. In August 2016, before the start of the 2016/17 season, the second team had to be canceled due to a lack of players.

mascot

TSG Neustrelitz's mascot has been called "Mecki" since October 2013. It is a blue bull from Mecklenburg .

Stages

TSG Neustrelitz has three stadiums. The largest is the Parkstadion with 7000 seats (of which approx. 700 seats) . This is where the club's first team games take place. It also has a VIP zone. In 2016, the Park Stadium was supplemented with a new guest block and a small back straight. Two other TSG stadiums are the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion (artificial turf, approx. 3500 seats) and the Jahn-Sportpark (approx. 1000 seats).
