Chérif Souleymane , also Souleymane Cherif or Soulegmane Cherif , (born January 1, 1944 in Kindia ) is a former Guinean football player .

Career

In 1961, Chérif came to Neustrelitz as a student as part of socialist development aid to study construction in the GDR. But he initially hired himself in the VEB Bau-Union to gain experience for the construction in his home country. In his free time he played sports in the sports hall of the boarding house, played basketball and also impressed a few soccer players from SC Neubrandenburg , who thought: "If you can move so smoothly, you can certainly also kick."

Gottfried Eisler , coach of the second division team , made sure that he could play for his club from the 1962/63 season. In the following season he contributed with 12 goals in 23 point games to the championship in the North Season and to the promotion of SC Neubrandenburg to the league . Because of the foreigner ban applicable to the league, he was unable to continue his career in Neubrandenburg and played the 1964/65 season for the second division BSG Empor Neustrelitz before returning to Guinea.

From January 1970 to December 1979 he played for the capital club Hafia FC from Conakry . During this time he was voted Africa's Footballer of the Year 1972 .

National team

For the national team of Guinea he played all three games in Group A during the Olympic football tournament held in Mexico City from October 13 to 26, 1968 . In the qualifiers for the 1974 World Cup and the for the 1978 World Cup it was used a total of seven times.
