history

In the 1970s, the idea of sports journalist Fritz Klein Sport III , the predecessor program of the sports club , which went on air on January 13, 1974. Until the beginning of the 1990s, there was a joint third television program of the North German Radio , Radio Bremen and Sender Free Berlin . Every week, the programs were responsible for the sports program and were broadcast from there. Later, when NDR television was still called N3 , the show was called Sport 3 . Until May 2009, the sports club was produced and broadcast once a month by Radio Bremen. Due to conceptual changes from 2010 with the focus on Bundesliga football and significantly increasing costs under the leadership of the NDR, there was insufficient space for Bremen issues. So the Bremen decided to stop delivering programs for the sports club. Most recently, Stephan Schiffner was the moderator of the Bremen edition.

On May 5, 2019, Gerhard Delling , longstanding presenter of the show, hosted his last sports club . After 32 years he left the ARD .
