Alexander Bommes (born January 21, 1976 in Kiel ) is a German television presenter and former handball player .
Athletic career
Bommes played for the Kiel suburb TSV Altenholz since he was young and moved up in 1996 in its second division team. In 1999 he moved to TSV Bayer Dormagen in the 1st Bundesliga . In 2001 there was another move to VfL Gummersbach . After his contract in Gummersbach was not extended, he switched back to TSV Altenholz in 2003 and continued his law studies in Kiel. In his second phase in Altenholz, Bommes was the team's main goal scorer and scored 824 goals in 132 second division games, 295 of them by seven meters. In the 2005/06 season he was the top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga North with 293 goals in 38 games. At the end of the 2007/08 season he ended his handball career. During his studies he had already worked as a sports reporter for NDR parallel to his handball career .
Professional background
After completing the first state examination in law and a traineeship at NDR in Hamburg, Bommes presented the Hamburg Journal , the main news program for Hamburg, from November 2007 . At the same time he continued to work as a sports reporter and moderated a. a. the Sunday sports club . Since November 2009 he has moderated the city versus country knowledge duel . From 2011 to 2013 he hosted the TV breakdown show top flops on NDR television .
At the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and 2013 World Championships in Athletics and in the football World Cup women he was as an interviewer for the ARD in use. He moderated the hourly Olympic Telegram and the Paralympics on ARD at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he again hosted the Olympic Telegram .
Since 2011, Bommes has been leading through the Sunday sports show, alternating with Julia Scharf , Michael Antwerpes , Claus Lufen , René Kindermann and Jessy Wellmer . Since 2013 he has been the moderator of the Sportschau Club , which can be seen on ARD after football broadcasts . In August 2014, he signed an exclusive contract with ARD until 2017, which from July 2015 also provides for assignments within the sports show on Saturday . Until December 2014, he moderated the ARD box programs together with expert Henry Maske .
Since 2012 he has hosted the quiz show asked - hunted on NDR television . Since May 18, 2015, he has also been presenting this on Monday to Friday in the first , temporarily replacing the quiz duel moderated by Jörg Pilawa .
In 2013 he replaced Carlo von Tiedemann as the presenter of the NDR quiz show . In November 2014, the NDR announced that Bommes would be presenting a talk show under the title Tietjen und Bommes from 2015 as the successor to Eckart von Hirschhausen alongside Bettina Tietjen . For this reason, he handed over the moderation of the NDR quiz show to Jörg Pilawa and also ended his engagement in the Hamburg Journal .
Private
Bommes' great uncle is Otto Schlenzka , and Karl Bommes, President of the LSV from 1953 to 1973 , is his grandfather. Andreas Bommes, a re-founding member of the "Arion" Pesch men's choir, which had been in existence since 1868/69 and was closed in 1911, is his great-grandfather. His father Klaus Bommes is a notary and a lawyer and worked as a hobby moderator for the NDR for 17 years . His mother Doris Bommes is a speech therapy teacher . He has a sister who also studied law.
With the presenter Julia Westlake , Bommes has two sons; he has been living separately from her since the beginning of 2016.
