Alexander Bommes (born January 21, 1976 in Kiel ) is a German television presenter and former handball player .

Athletic career

Bommes played for the Kiel suburb TSV Altenholz since he was young and moved up in 1996 in its second division team. In 1999 he moved to TSV Bayer Dormagen in the 1st Bundesliga . In 2001 there was another move to VfL Gummersbach . After his contract in Gummersbach was not extended, he switched back to TSV Altenholz in 2003 and continued his law studies in Kiel. In his second phase in Altenholz, Bommes was the team's main goal scorer and scored 824 goals in 132 second division games, 295 of them by seven meters. In the 2005/06 season he was the top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga North with 293 goals in 38 games. At the end of the 2007/08 season he ended his handball career. During his studies he had already worked as a sports reporter for NDR parallel to his handball career .

Professional background

After completing the first state examination in law and a traineeship at NDR in Hamburg, Bommes presented the Hamburg Journal , the main news program for Hamburg, from November 2007 . Private

Bommes' great uncle is Otto Schlenzka , and Karl Bommes, President of the LSV from 1953 to 1973 , is his grandfather. Andreas Bommes, a re-founding member of the "Arion" Pesch men's choir, which had been in existence since 1868/69 and was closed in 1911, is his great-grandfather. His father Klaus Bommes is a notary and a lawyer and worked as a hobby moderator for the NDR for 17 years . His mother Doris Bommes is a speech therapy teacher . He has a sister who also studied law.

With the presenter Julia Westlake , Bommes has two sons; he has been living separately from her since the beginning of 2016.
