Otto Schlenzka
Otto Schlenzka (born March 9, 1919 in Flensburg ; † July 29, 2015 in Kiel ) was a German sailor and sailing sports official.
Life
Otto Schlenzka graduated from high school in 1936. From 1937 to 1945 he was a naval officer in the Navy . After the war he worked as a salesman in the field from 1946 to 1982 .
Schlenzka was associated with sailing all his life. He joined the Kiel Yacht Club (KYC) in 1933 and was active in regatta sailing from 1934 to 1969 , primarily in the star boat .
In his career as a functionary, Schlenzka was vice chairman from 1958 to 1974, chairman from 1974 to 1983 and from 1983 until his death in 2015 commodore of the KYC. He organized the sailing regattas at the Kiel Week from 1965 to 1984 . From 1965 to 1972 he was responsible for the preparation and management of the sporting part of the Olympic sailing competitions in Kiel . From 1969 to 1977 he was Vice President of the German Sailing Association . From 1972 to 1990 he represented the DSV on the board of the International Sailing Association . In 1976 he headed the German Olympic sailing team in Kingston / Canada . From 1985 to 1988 he was a consultant for the Olympic sailing competitions in Busan / Korea .
The presenter Alexander Bommes is his grandson.
