Markus Huth (born April 16, 1982 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) is a German journalist , photographer and author .

Live and act

Huth grew up in Weißwasser and attended the Lew-Landau-Gymnasium. After graduating from high school in 2000, he did military service with the paratrooper battalion 373 in Doberlug-Kirchhain . He then studied history and classical archeology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , with a one-year stay abroad at the RGGU in Moscow . After completing his studies, he volunteered at the news agency dapd and then worked as a dapd editor in the regional office in Hamburg . Since 2013, Huth has been a freelance text and photo journalist with a focus on travel reports and society.

In 2014 he founded the international reporting magazine Weltseher (formerly Sieh die Welt ) together with the Hamburg journalist Oliver Alegiani . Both run the magazine as editors-in-chief. In addition, he published articles in various regional and national German-speaking media, u. a. in Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung , Die Welt and Der Spiegel .

In 2013 and 2016 he traveled to the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan and described his experiences in the book Without a Plan through Kyrgyzstan . From 2017 he traveled around the world as a pet sitter with stays in Sri Lanka , Namibia , Canada , Australia , Bulgaria , Kyrgyzstan and La Gomera . This resulted in the book With 80 Viechern around the world .

Today Huth lives with his wife and son on La Gomera .

Awards

For his report Die Unglücksraben he was awarded the media prize of the Austrian Federal Association for People with Disabilities ( ÖZIV ) in 2016. In addition, he was nominated for the alternative media award in Germany .
