The Reformed Church in Tamins in the canton of Grisons is due to its exposed hillside visible from afar listed Evangelical - Reformed church .

history

On the occasion of the extensive renovation work carried out by the architect Beat Buchli in 2009, traces of the excavation work were found that go back far before the Tamins church was first mentioned in the 15th century. According to these finds, the first church in Tamins was built at the turn of the 11th to the 12th century on the western edge of the hill plateau. It was a hall church , this was 6 meters long, 4 meters wide, with a semicircular apse . In addition to the foundation walls, remains of the floor and the altar have been preserved. The excavations were carried out by the Archaeological Service of the Canton of Graubünden, which recorded the results in the 2010 annual report.

Presumably for reasons of space, in the 11th or 12th century a church twice as large in the same shape was added to the north side of the existing one. Probably at the end of the 14th century a nobleman or high clergyman financed a new church. The donor's bones were buried on the outside of the new church in a clearly visible donor's grave. This new Romanesque building combined the differently sized rooms of the previous churches into a single hall. The two altar rooms were designed as semicircular apses. The stone bench along the west and south banks comes from the previous buildings.

This church did not undergo any major changes until the 15th century, when it was decided to build a new one, the choir of which was completed in 1494. This year the Tamins church was first mentioned in a document. Her separation from Trin is recorded , which suggests the employment of her own pastor in Tamins.

The 30 meter high tower and nave were not completed until 1513, presumably for financial reasons.

This Gothic building remained unchanged until the 19th century. The current shape of the nave and tower go back to modifications in 1840 (installation of the gallery) or 1899 (completion of the almost 50 meter high tower) and 1920, the choir remained unchanged except for the roof structure. The baptismal font was given to the Taminsern in 1910 by the parish of Rüti ZH , previously only a wooden table had been available.

In the 1970s, the slightly barrel-shaped, wood-clad nave and the needle-shaped tower were restored and a new organ was installed. The glass painting in the choir was made by Ernst Rinderspacher . The dominant pulpit dates from 1730.
