criticism
In Kerner's talk show on October 9, 2007, Eva Herman was a guest to speak with other guests on the subject of "The distribution of roles between men and women". In the course of the program, she was unloaded by Kerner. In his opinion, she had not distanced herself sufficiently from National Socialism. In the daily newspaper Die Welt the program was described as “The public execution of Eva Herman”, with which Kerner “did himself (...) no favor”. In order to watch the program, one had to “briefly” fade out “that one lives in a democracy.” Die Zeit commented: “First and foremost, the presenter Johannes B. Kerner put on a bad show.”
When Kerner advertised, among other things, the IPO of the airline Air Berlin in 2006 , he was criticized from many sides because he also worked for a public broadcaster. The German Association of Journalists also considered it problematic when a prominent moderator like Kerner used his face for commercial campaigns.
Kerner's broadcast in December 2010 from Afghanistan about the deployment of the Bundeswehr there together with the then Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and his wife Stephanie zu Guttenberg was also criticized .
other activities
Kerner was committed as an ambassador for the 2006 World Cup for people with disabilities in Germany. As an ambassador, he supports the Respekt! No place for racism . In 2010 and 2011 he advertised as a testimonial for mixed sausage made from poultry and pork under the Gutfried brand , and previously for bonaqa and other products.
In the comedy film Der tote Taucher im Wald he had a cameo as a jogger in 2000 .
Private life
From 1992 to 1994 Kerner was in a relationship with the presenter Monica Lierhaus .
Kerner was married to the former national hockey player Britta Becker since 1996 and is the father of four children. In June 2016, the couple announced that they had separated. He currently lives in Hamburg . Kerner ran the Berlin Marathon , the Hamburg Marathon and regularly takes part in the traditional Hamburg charity game, Kicken mit Herz .
