Child and youth protection

Stephanie zu Guttenberg was active against child abuse from 2004 to 2013 and since 2006 has been doing public relations work for the internationally operating non-governmental organization Innocence in Danger , which campaigns against the sexual abuse of children and in particular against the spread of child pornography through the new media . Since 2009 she has been president of the German association Innocence in Danger Section Germany e. V. , which is currently based in Berlin. Zu Guttenberg is one of the most prominent proponents of blocking Internet content in Germany . The children's organization announced the end of their commitment on February 18, 2013, ten days later zu Guttenberg cited a lack of personal presence due to her move to the USA as a reason.

Zu Guttenberg personally solicited donations for the non-profit association, for example at fundraising events . In November 2010 she won Günther Jauch's RTL quiz show Wer wird Millionär? 500,000 euros for the association. When the media reported critically about the alleged “non-transparent use of funds”, she, as club president, rejected the allegations and responded with a criminal complaint for “defamatory statements”.

In September 2010 she published the book Don't look away! Together with Anne-Ev Ustorf . What we have to do against sexual abuse by criticizing, among other things, "porn on the Internet, pop singers in bondage outfits and top model shows on private television", which make it difficult for children and young people to develop a positive body image and self-centered sexuality. The Internet, in particular, has given pediatric crime an omnipresent dimension.

In the first episode of the controversial RTL II telecast Crime Scene Internet - Protects finally our children , the October-November 2010 by Udo Nagel was moderated, stepped zu Guttenberg as a co-host. In the ten-part documentary series supported by Innocence in Danger , actresses around journalist Beate Krafft-Schöning pretended to be 13 to 15-year-olds in internet chats and fulfilled men's requests for a meeting. At the arranged meeting, the men were confronted and denounced as potential offenders. After one of the men could be identified, there was increased criticism of the show, the appearance of Guttenbergs in this and threats against her person.

Further commitment

From January 2011 to October 2012, zu Guttenberg was the patron of the Bavarian State Association of the German Multiple Sclerosis Society .

Zu Guttenberg supported the award given annually by the Karl Kübel Foundation for Child and Family for commitment in the area of "early childhood" and took on ambassadorial activities for the Karl Kübel Prize 2010 , which was awarded to the project "Strong Children" of the Mengerskirchen Education Forum .

public perception

In December 2010, Stephanie zu Guttenberg traveled to Afghanistan with the then Defense Minister to visit the troops; according to her husband, she did this "at her own request" and paid for it herself. She was the first German ministerial wife to accompany her husband to a crisis area with German military operations. The visit was criticized by the media and politicians of the opposition parties and, occasionally, by the FDP as a self-presentation. A representative survey by the ZDF Politbarometer showed that 64% agreed with the visit, 30% felt that participating in the Afghanistan visit was wrong and 6% had no opinion. The Bundeswehrverband defended the visit to Guttenbergs.
