Edmond de Pourtalès
Edmond comte de Pourtalès-Gorgier (also: Edmund Graf von Pourtalès) (born April 6, 1828 in Paris , † March 23, 1895 in Cannes ) was a Swiss-French banker, officer and parliamentarian.
Life
Edmond de Pourtalès was the son of the Neuchâtel banker and royal Prussian chamberlain James Alexander de Pourtalès-Gorgier and the banker's daughter Anne-Henriette nee. de Palézieux dit Falconnet. After attending grammar school in Neuchâtel, he studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1848 he became a member of the Corps Borussia Bonn . After graduating, he became a banker in Paris and later in Strasbourg . In 1857 he married Mélanie Renouard de Bussière . In 1870 he was elected to the Conseil général du Département Bas-Rhin . As a commandant and commander of the 4th battalion of the Garde nationale mobile du Bas-Rhin, he participated in the defense of Strasbourg .
