Augustus Hofmann

Augustus Hofmann (* 1938 ) is a German insurance broker and television critic from Cologne .

Life

The self-designating as "professional audience" Augustus Hofmann leads since 1987 a campaign against the excesses of modern television and awarded from 1989 to 2008 annually at the Frankfurt Book Fair the price of the offended viewers an "extremely ugly yellow fish figure with red mouth". The prize was awarded for "outstanding insolence on the part of a single television producer or an institution responsible for programming"; the award received regular media coverage.

Karl Dall , Die Sendung mit der Maus and Oliver Pocher were the only winners who also received the award. Pocher picked up his prize in Hofmann's apartment and was accompanied by a camera team. The contribution was broadcast on October 9, 2008 in the ARD show Schmidt & Pocher . This was the last award of the prize so far.

In 1990 Hofmann founded the Augustus Hofmann Verlag, whose program is limited exclusively to the title The Professional Viewer - Chronicle of an Unfinished Uprising .

In 1993 he organized a happening on the Leipzig market square under the title Aufbruch , at which a book was buried in a symbolic interpretation of the future of the book city of Leipzig.

In 1995 he proclaimed the “first television audience parliament” in the country.
