GDR soccer league 1962/63

In the 1962/63 season , the BSG Lokomotive Stendal succeeded in the immediate re-promotion to the GDR league and the BSG Motor Steinach for the first time made the leap into the upper house.

Qualifying round for the GDR league season 1963/64

With the beginning of the 1963/64 season, the two seasons of the GDR league were increased to 16 teams each. Five of the eight free places were taken by the relay winners of the Second GDR League from the 1962/63 season. The remaining three participants were determined in a qualifying round, in which the last two of the GDR league relays, the five runners-up in the second GDR league and the 15 district champions took part. The game was played in 6 groups with 4 teams each, which determined their group winners for the last knockout games. Each team played one home and one away game as well as a game on a neutral pitch in their group. The winners of the knockout games secured the last three places for the GDR league season 1963/64. All other teams were integrated into the district leagues.

↑ The BSG Empor Neustrelitz was subsequently stripped of the title of district champion of the Neubrandenburg district , as the player Max Landgraf was unjustified in the final of the district championship against the ASG Vorwärts Löcknitz . The game was then canceled and Vorwärts Löcknitz was declared district champion. As a result of this, Group A of the qualifying round had to be replayed. The BSG Aufbau Boizenburg decided not to participate again.

Due to the disqualification of Neustrelitz, the BSG Aufbau Boizenburg was subsequently appointed district master Neubrandenburg. The entire qualifying round for Group A then had to be repeated. The BSG Aufbau Boizenburg declined to participate. So only three teams were fighting for group victory.
