Ulrich Sperschneider (born October 16, 1940 ) was a German football player. Between 1963 and 1965 he completed 29 games for Motor Steinach in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Ulrich Sperschneider, who had previously played for the company sports association (BSG) Aufbau in Mengersgereuth-Hammern, Thuringia, in the fourth-class district league Suhl , appeared in the 1959 season as a player in BSG Motor Steinach for the first time in the second-class first GDR league . He played eleven point games and scored seven goals. The Steinachers did not manage to stay in the league when they were promoted and had to relegate back to the second GDR league . When BSG Motor missed the rise in 1960, Sperschneider left Steinach and joined the second division club SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt for the 1961/62 season (change to the summer-spring season) . In the 39 game season he was used 22 times and was successful with eight goals. The SC Motor rose to the top division, but Sperschneider returned to Motor Steinach. At the same time, the Steinacher had returned to the first GDR league and surprisingly managed in the 1962/63 season as a newcomer the march through to promotion to the league. Sperschneider was involved in this success as a left winger with 23 appearances in the 26 point games and with 16 goals. Only his strike partner Günter Queck was more successful with 19 hits.

Coach Heinz Leib also used Sperschneider in the first league season of BSG Motor Steinach mainly as a left winger. He played 20 of the 26 first division games and scored six goals. After coach Leib Sperschneider had been disregarded several times in the second half of the 1963/64 season because of weakness in form, he was only used on the third day of the game at the beginning of the 1964/65 season. Although he scored a goal, he was then no longer used in the first half of the season and was only called up in the second half of the season with breaks in another eight league games, so that he only came in a total of nine missions and two goals in 1964/65. At the end of the season Steinach had to relegate back to the GDR league (the II. GDR league was now closed).

By 1967 Sperschneider had completed 16 GDR league games within two seasons, in which he scored five goals. He then worked as a recreational footballer for the fourth division team Motor Sonneberg.
