Athletic career

The name Günter Queck appeared in national sports coverage for the first time in 1961, when he was appointed to the junior national team of the GDR as a 17-year-old junior player for BSG Motor Steinach . He played his first international junior game on June 18, 1961 as a half-right striker in the encounter between GDR and Yugoslavia (0-1). By 1962 Queck played seven junior internationals, in which he was always used in attack and scored three goals.

In the following years Queck was instrumental in the steep rise of the Steinach footballers to the top division of GDR football. When BSG Motor Steinach played in the second-rate GDR league for the first time in the 1962/63 season, at the age of 19 he was already part of the team's player base with all 26 contested games. With the 19 goals scored, he was the top scorer in the southern league and was thus actively involved in the rise of BSG Motor in the GDR league. Steinach was able to stay in the league for two seasons, in which Queck was part of the regular eleven with only five missed point games. In 1963/64 as well as 1964/65 he was the top scorer of his team with ten and eight goals respectively.

After relegation from the league, Queck played for Motor Steinach in the GDR league until 1975. Except for two seasons (1972/73 and 1974/75) he was always Steinacher's top scorer. Of the 268 league point games that Motor Steinach completed from 1965 to 1975, Queck played 216 games and scored 93 goals. With his 289 first and second league appearances , Queck is second behind Werner Linß (304) in the BSG Motor record list. As a 130-time goalscorer, he is by far the top scorer in the Steinacher first and second division. After the end of his career as a soccer player, Queck trained for many years as the first team at BSG Motor Steinach.
