In the 1982/83 season , BSG Stahl Riesa and BSG Chemie Leipzig succeeded in making the leap back into the GDR league after two and three years respectively .
mode
The game was played in five seasons of 12 teams each (regional aspects). In a double round with a return leg, the season winners and three relegated teams per season were determined. The season winners also determined the two league promoters with a return game in a promotion round.
Season A
Season course
In the battle for the relay victory there was a head to head race between BSG Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock and ASG Vorwärts Neubrandenburg . Both went tied in the last game day, with the Rostockers having the better goal difference. Neubrandenburg quickly led at SG Dynamo Schwerin , but had to accept the equalizer in the 65th minute, which also meant the final score. This draw almost brought the relay win, which TSG Bau Rostock would then have to thank. These eleven, which are still in desperate need of relegation, were already 3-1 ahead of the leaders, before they had to accept 3: 3 in the 89th minute after 3: 2 (78th). In the end, both Rostock teams were able to cheer, one about staying in the league (construction) and the other about winning the relay (shipping / port). Dynamo Schwerin and last year's winner Vorwärts Stralsund followed in third and fourth place . After the winter break, both were not consistent enough to keep up with the top duo. The teams from fifth place played against relegation, with BSG Hydraulik Parchim and newcomer BSG KKW Greifswald being relegated to the district league early on . On the penultimate matchday, ISG Schwerin-Süd and Post Neubrandenburg saved each other and thus four teams fought for the three places that were eligible for relegation on the last matchday. A tie was enough for TSG Wismar and TSG Bau Rostock in the last game, because the newcomers BSG Lok / Armaturen Prenzlau and BSG CM Veritas Wittenberge had the same points in a direct duel and also had the worse goal difference. Wismar won against Greifswald and Bau Rostock got the necessary point to stay in the league against Schiffahrt / Hafen. Wittenberge then had to relegate as the third eleven, who did not get beyond a draw in Prenzlau.

Season B
Season course
For the first time in their 13-year league membership, BSG Stahl Brandenburg won the season. Brandenburg relegated SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde as well as the relegated league and season favorite Energie Cottbus to the places. The “capricious” Energie-Elf always unexpectedly dropped points when they had just fought their way to Brandenburg. Then came a broad midfield from BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt to BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf . In the fight against relegation, BSG Bergmann-Borsig Berlin and the newcomer BSG semiconductor plant Frankfurt / O. Cancel the sails early. The third relegated team was determined by the Berlin Rotation and KWO clubs . Both clubs missed the connection to midfield after the winter break and now met for the decisive game on the last matchday. KWO, for whom a draw would have been enough, unexpectedly came under the wheels of 1: 4 with the neighbors and was relegated to the district league .

Season C
Season course
The BSG Chemie Leipzig was the sovereign relay winner and relegated the ASG Vorwärts Dessau , which was always lying in wait, to second place. The league relegated BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau lost too much ground at the start of the season and ultimately had to settle for third place. Then came with the SG Dynamo Eisleben , BSG Stahl Thale and the newcomer TSG Chemie Markkleeberg three clubs that managed to stay in the league in time. On the penultimate game day they were followed by the BSG unit Wernigerode and thus four teams still fought for the two places eligible for relegation on the last game day. For the newcomers BSG Chemie Wolfen and BSG Motor Schönebeck a tie would each be enough to stay in the league, whereas the BSG Lokomotive Stendal and BSG Motor Altenburg would only help their own victories and slip-ups of the competition. Wolfen (4: 4 against Eisleben) and Schönebeck (3–3 against Dessau) saved themselves on their own and sent Stendal (3: 0 against Markkleeberg) and Altenburg (0: 3 in Schkopau) to the district league . The BSG Stahl Blankenburg , to be found at the top of the league season C for years, could not stop the downward trend of the previous season and were relegated as the third team.

Season D
Season course
BSG Stahl Riesa won the season unbeaten and with a 14 point lead . Then came a broad, balanced midfield from BSG activist Schwarze Pump to FSV Lokomotive Dresden . For the three newcomers ASG Vorwärts Plauen , BSG Lokomotive Cottbus and BSG Vorteil Neustadt , they returned to the district league after just one season . Only Plauen kept the relegation battle a bit open before they too had to tick off relegation due to defeats on matchday 20 at BSG Progress Bischofswerda and on matchday 21 against BSG Lokomotive Cottbus.

Season E
Season course
This time BSG Wismut Gera relegated last year's winner BSG Motor Nordhausen and BSG Motor Suhl to their places and was once again the relay winner after three years. Gera was able to build on the good performance of the previous season (second half of the season) and led the table on 20 match days. This was followed by BSG Chemie IW Ilmenau , BSG Glückauf Sondershausen , BSG Motor Rudisleben and BSG activist Kali Werra Tiefenort who had nothing to do with the ascent or descent. For BSG Motor Eisenach and the newcomer BSG Motor Steinach , the die was quickly cast in the direction of the district league , although the GDR league was one class too high for Steinach . The third relegation was determined between the two newcomers TSG Ruhla and BSG Motor Hermsdorf and BSG Motor Weimar . After two defeats on the last two game days (1: 5 each in Nordhausen and against Gera), the Hermsdorfer had to go into the third division while simultaneously winning points.

Promotion lap
Season course
With the BSG Stahl Riesa , a team rose to the GDR upper league , which did not suffer a defeat either in its season or in the promotion round. This was previously only achieved by FC Hansa Rostock 1975/76 and FC Vorwärts Frankfurt / O. 1978/79 . In addition to the team from Riesa, the traditional BSG Chemie Leipzig also made it into the upper house. The only team that could stand up to the newcomers was the BSG Stahl Brandenburg . But after two unnecessary defeats against BSG Wismut Gera, they had to bury their dreams of promotion. At Gera too often light and shadow changed in her performance to be able to seriously have a say in advancement. The BSG shipping / port Rostock disappointed across the board and only came to Gera with a win on points.
