The FV Gröditz, founded in 1911, could not achieve any notable successes until 1945. After the Second World War, the association was dissolved on January 1, 1946 on the basis of a directive from the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers. The ZSG Gröditz then continued to run the sports business until it was taken over by the company sports association (BSG) Stahl Gröditz in 1950 . Their soccer team was a founding member of the newly established third-class district league Dresden in 1952 , but it was relegated in 1954. 1956 succeeded in returning to the fourth-class district league, in which Gröditz was district champion in 1959 and rose to the second GDR league . There Gröditz was represented over three seasons, after the 1962/63 season the II. League was dissolved and Gröditz had to return to the district league. In the meantime, BSG Stahl had merged with BSG Rotation Gröditz to form TSG Gröditz in 1961.

Although TSG was again district champion in 1966 and 1969, the team could not prevail in the promotion rounds to the GDR league . Only when TSG reached second place in 1972 behind the Stahl Riesa II team that was not eligible for promotion, they were promoted to the second-class GDR league. For six years, the Gröditzer were able to place themselves in the midfield, in 1979 it was only enough for the last relay place, combined with the renewed relegation to the district league. The promotion succeeded within a year, and then TSG Gröditz was represented for another four seasons in the GDR league. In 1984 a 7th place was not enough for relegation, as the GDR league was reduced from five to two seasons. Then TSG was again a district league until 1990, the district championships in 1986 and 1987 were not enough for renewed promotion. TSG Gröditz finished the last regional league season under the direction of the GDR Football Association with 2nd place.

The BSG and TSG qualified 16 times for the GDR soccer cup competitions between 1956 and 1987. 30 games were played, 13 of which were won. TSG had five times with Dynamo Dresden (1976 2: 3), FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (1977 0: 2), Hallescher FC (1983 0: 1), 1. FC Magdeburg (1984 1: 5) and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig (1987 0: 4) GDR league club as guest. More than the 2nd main round was never reached.

GDR statistics:

  • Participation in the GDR League: 1972/73 to 1978/79, 1980/81 to 1983/84
  • Participation in the 2nd GDR League: 1960, 1961/62, 1962/63
  • Eternal table of the GDR league : 61st place

After the reunification , the football section of TSG spun off and founded a civil association , which again took on the historical name of the Gröditz football club in 1911. For the 1990/91 season he was incorporated into the newly founded state league of Saxony , which was third class at the time , and finished in 5th place at the end of the season. After two successive relegations, the FV played from 1993 in the Dresden district class. After the restructuring of the game operations, the FV Gröditz played from the 2011/12 season in the eight-class district league Meißen. In the 2013/14 season he was promoted to the middle class.
