Matthias Jacob (born April 3, 1963 ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

Matthias Jabob appeared regularly in national GDR football for the first time in the 1980/81 season , when he scored a goal in four games for the runner-up in League Season E, the BSG Wismut Gera . In the summer of 1981 he moved from the offspring of BSG Wismut to the squad of the league eleven, for which he had made his debut as a 17-year-old junior player on the 10th and final match day in the league promotion round in 1980 against SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde . Until the end of 1984 he was in the second highest division, the league , active for the team from the Gera district capital . In 1981/82 and 1982/83 he scored double digits for Wismut Gera. In the spring of 1983, the Geraer fought as the winner of Season E for the last time before their abolition in the promotion round a year later for a starting place in the league , but could not prevail against the competition from Riesa and Leipzig-Leutzsch .

At the turn of the year 1984/85, the midfielder managed to make the leap into the GDR football club by moving to BSG Wismut Aue . At the start of the second half of the league season 1984/1985 , the 21-year-old Jacob made his debut in the goalless draw of the Wismut-Elf at home against FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and fought for a regular place for the remaining games in the spring. The team of Hans-Ulrich Thomale finished in 4th place and thus qualified for the first time in a quarter of a century for the European Cup . In the following season the midfielder was only used three times in the first team and was not on the ball when he was eliminated in the first round of the 1985/86 UEFA Cup against Dnieper Dnepropetrovsk . He was more constant this season after he was in preparation in half of all games of the Oberligaelf in the group victory Wimut Aues in the Intertoto Cup , called up in the second representation of the Auer, but in the end as the bottom of the league season B had to go to the district league.

By repeating 4th place from 1985 in the 1986/87 season , the Auer team once again made it into the UEFA Cup . In the 1987/88 competition Matthias Jacob was on the ball in all four games played up to the second round from Saxony against KS Flamurtari Vlora . In the top division of GDR football he played a total of 46 games until his return to BSG Wismut Gera in the summer of 1989, in which he scored seven hits. In 1990/91 Jacob was one of the five most successful goalscorers of the league season B with 13 goals for Gera in the last independent season of East German football .

He remained loyal to the Gera club, later trading as 1. SV Gera, even after reunification . First, the team competed in the third-rate amateur league , after the qualification for the re-introduced regional league could not be made, the Gera league footballers were only fourth-rate .
