The GDR Oberliga 1986/87 was the 38th edition of the top division of the GDR . It began on August 16, 1986 and ended on June 6, 1987. Champion was again the BFC Dynamo , which celebrated its ninth championship (also in a row).
Season course
Defending champion and record champions Berliner FC Dynamo started the season well, as expected. A duel between Lok Leipzig and the BFC developed over the course of the season. From the 16th to the 19th match day, both teams were tied at the top. But then Lok broke in and only got four points from the seven remaining games. This cleared the way for the BFC for the ninth championship title in a row.
At the end of the table, BSG Stahl Riesa and BSG Progress Bischofswerda were on the relegation spots four game days before the end . Riesa scored in all four games and was able to save himself. For BSG Energie Cottbus , the 1-0 victory on the final day at Stahl Brandenburg came too late. With Cottbus and BSG Progress Bischofswerda , both climbers were relegated.
