GDR football league 1980/81

The GDR Oberliga 1981/82 was the 33rd edition of the top division of the GDR . It began on August 22, 1981 and ended on May 30, 1982. The Berlin FC Dynamo outclassed the competition and celebrated its fourth championship in a row.

Season course

FC Carl Zeiss Jena , 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and 1. FC Magdeburg were able to stand up to defending champion FC Dynamo from Berlin until late autumn . Magdeburg was still top of the table on matchday 10, but could not keep up in the second half of the season and missed a UEFA Cup place with sixth place. The BFC really got going after the winter break and also shook off the other pursuers Carl Zeiss Jena and Lok Leipzig, who were three points behind by then. With three game days to go, the fourth championship title in a row was perfect. Jena qualified for the UEFA Cup thanks to SG Dynamo Dresden 's cup win.

At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle for the two climbers BSG Energie Cottbus and BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau became apparent early on. Both clubs had to leave the league at the end of the season.
