Andreas Rath (born September 13, 1962 ) in Berlin is a former German football player in defense.

Athletic career

Andreas Rath started playing football at BFC Dynamo in 1971 . He went through all age groups in the junior division and made his debut in the East German league in the 1979/80 season at the age of 17 under coach Jürgen Bogs . Until his move to Cottbus in 1986, the defender did not get beyond a reserve role for the series champions. Mostly he played in the upper league junior round and from 1984/85 in the GDR league, in which the 2nd team of the BFC played. However, in the end there were 6 championship titles with the record champions. At BSG Energie Cottbus he was one of the permanent staff. His first appearance in the league was on August 16, 1986 against FC Karl-Marx-Stadt . On May 2, 1987, he scored his first and only goal in the Oberliga for Cottbus when he scored in the 27th minute against FC Carl Zeiss Jena - but the game was lost 2-1. After relegation in the first year, the team was immediately promoted back to the House of Lords. In the 1988/89 season Rath came to five missions before he began his honorary service in the NVA in December . During this time he played for the ASG Vorwärts Fünfeichen in the district league Neubrandenburg. After that he joined the BSG activist Schwarze Pump in 1990 and stayed there for a year. Until 1993 he played with the lower class teams SV Dissenchen 04 and Schmogrower SV before ending his career.

At the international level, Rath played 5 U21 and 43 U18 internationals for the German Football Association (DFV).
