The GDR Oberliga 1984/85 was the 36th edition of the top division of the GDR . It began on August 18, 1984 and ended on June 1, 1985. The Berlin FC Dynamo again prevailed over the competition and celebrated its seventh championship in a row.
Season course
The Berlin FC Dynamo and Dynamo Dresden remained the first five games without loss points. On the sixth day of the match, the BFC took over the lead in the standings and kept the full number of points until the eighth day, when the team suffered their first defeat 2: 3 at Lok Leipzig. After the eleventh game day, when the two were still tied, the BFC was able to outpace their rivals and had a six point lead at the end of the season. The team was the sole record holder with the seventh championship title.
The 90 goals scored by the BFC in 26 games (3.46 per game) meant a new record for the league that should not be outbid. Only in the 1950/51 season did the BSG Rotation Babelsberg score more hits (95) in one season, albeit in 34 games. The SG Dresden-Friedrichstadt had set up the best rate of 3.35 goals scored per game in the first season of 1949/50.
The BSG Wismut Aue returned to international business after 25 years. The team benefited from the Magdeburg defeat at Rot-Weiß Erfurt on the last day of the match.
At the end of the table, Motor Suhl could not make up for the bad first half of the season (only one point) and was relegated with BSG Chemie Leipzig .
