After relegation in 1988 to the second-rate GDR league, Kuhlee continued to play for forward. After two seasons, 57 appearances and twelve goals, he managed to get promoted again. Until the 1994/95 season he was part of the regular team, but his hit rate steadily decreased, so that he ended his professional career in 1995 and has since played for the lower class SSV Spremberg 1862.
