Bernd Kubowitz (born June 7, 1962 ) is a former German soccer player who played in the GDR major league in the 1980s .

Athletic career

BFC Dynamo

In 1975 Kubowitz was accepted into the youth team of the BFC Dynamo . In the same year he won the bronze medal with the East Berlin student selection at the GDR student partakiade. With the junior league team of the BFC Kubowitz won the GDR championship in 1981. After he had already been used in several friendly matches in the league team, he played his first league game on October 1, 1983 at the age of 21 in the encounter between FC Karl-Marx-Stadt - BFC (2: 1) as a substitute. He also played as a substitute in the European game Partizan Belgrade - BFC (1-0). In the second half of the 1983/84 season he played on behalf of the injured Wolf-Rüdiger network as a left striker in six other league games, where he was four times in the starting line-up. Kubowitz scored his first league goal in the second half of the season win against FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (4: 2) when he scored the 2-0 intermediate result in the 16th minute. Until the end of 1986 Kubowitz was only a substitute player in the league team of BSG Stahl. He was used in eleven league games across the seasons, in which he was only once in the starting line-up. In the two UEFA Cup matches against IFK Göteborg , Kubowitz played 55 minutes (as a substitute) and 37 minutes (as a substitute). It was only when several players had to be replaced in the second half of 1986/87 that Kubowitz moved up to the starting line-up and played twelve of the thirteen point games, each as a midfielder. He was also seeded in the 1987/88 season and was missing only once in the 26 league games. While he was always used in midfield in the first half of the season, he had to help out as a left defender for several weeks in the second half of the season. After Kubowitz had played five point games in the first half of the 1988/87 season, he was drafted into military service in November 1988.

Second to fourth league

During his time in the army, Kubowitz played for the GDR league representative FC Vorwärts Frankfurt . After the political change in 1989 he took the opportunity to look for a new club in early 1990 with the West Berlin Hertha Zehlendorf . He played with the Zehlendorfer until the summer of 1991 in the third-class Oberliga Berlin . For the 1991/92 season he moved within Berlin to the newly created third division Oberliga Nordost for one season at Spandauer SV . 1992/93 Kubowitz joined the SC Gatow , who played in the fourth class association league Berlin . After 1993 he no longer appeared in higher-class football.
