← GDR football league 1954/55 | |
The GDR Oberliga 1955 was the seventh edition of the top division of the GDR . It was a transitional round, as the championship from 1956 was aligned with the calendar year based on the Soviet model and therefore the time between the end of the 1954/55 season in summer 1955 and the beginning of the 1956 season in spring should be bridged.
Only 13 match days were played in which neither an official champion nor relegated team were determined. The transition round was won by SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt . It began on August 28, 1955 and ended on December 4, 1955.
Name change
The newcomer of the preseason BSG Progress Weissenfels was connected to a sports club and renamed SC Progress Weissenfels . After the end of the transition period and shortly before the start of the following season, BSG Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt was dissolved and connected to SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt .
Season course
The initially dominating SC Dynamo Berlin gave up the championship lead on the ninth matchday to Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and was then pushed out of second place by SC Empor Rostock . Wismut then did not give up the championship lead, even if the decision about the championship of the transition round was only made on the last match day. This began an era of dominance for the cup winner and runner-up of the preseason, which lasted until the end of the 1950s and brought Wismut three championships. The master of the two previous seasons Turbine Erfurt, however, was no longer one of the top teams and only finished eighth.
