GDR football league 1950/51

The GDR Oberliga 1951/52 was the third edition of the top division of the GDR . The BSG Turbine Hall became the master . The season began on August 29, 1951 and ended on May 11, 1952.

Before the season

In addition to the two sporty climbers from the previous season ( BSG Zentra Wismut Aue , BSG Anker Wismar ), there was another new team in the league with the SV Volkspolizei Vorwärts Leipzig . The sports association was only founded on August 2, 1951 and immediately incorporated into the major league as a representative of the Army Sports Association Forward . The two teams SG Union Oberschöneweide and VfB Pankow from East Berlin, who were relegated in the previous season, also indirectly remained in the top division; their places and teams were taken over by the BSG Motor Oberschöneweide and the BSG unit Pankow . This gave the league with 19 teams, the highest number of participants in its history.

Name changes

The names of the two climbers from Aue and Wismar were changed before the start of the season.

The championship trophy of the BSG Turbine Halle

Turbine Halle was ultimately the sovereign champion ahead of SG VP Dresden . The initially biggest competitors Rotation Dresden and Motor Zwickau had a poor second half and only finished fourth and fifth respectively. Last year's champion Chemie Leipzig experienced a false start and only achieved third place after a good second half.

Unit Pankow was again beaten last, but did not do quite as badly as last year. Together with the Pankowern, the previous year's climber Motor Wismar (who had to play his home games in Rostock ) and the founding members of the upper league Stahl Altenburg and progress Meerane rose . Only Meerane made it into the top division again afterwards. The SV VP Vorwärts Leipzig, which was raised to the upper league by order, also fought for a long time against relegation. In contrast, the newcomer Wismut Aue surprised and was even third for a short time. In the end you came in seventh.
