In the 1951/52 season, the BSG Empor Lauter won the season in season 1 and the BSG Motor Jena in season 2 and were promoted to the GDR league.

mode

Compared to the previous season, the number of teams in the GDR league was increased from 20 to 24, which were divided into seasons 1 and 2. A territorial separation could no longer be recognized, because in season 1 teams from Lauter to Schwerin played, in season 2 from Jena to Schwerin. Numerous sports clubs were given new names. Talented student athletes from other university cities were brought together in the HSG Wissenschaft Halle , and the team received a place in the league without having qualified.
