Gerhard Frank (soccer player)

Gerhard Frank (born October 14, 1923 ) is a former German soccer player who was active for BSG Motor Jena in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR soccer, in 1952/53 .

Athletic career

Until 1951, Gerhard Frank played with the company sports club (BSG) Motor Gotha in the third class state class Thuringia . At the beginning of the 1951/52 season he moved to BSG Motor Jena in the second-rate GDR league . There he immediately became a regular player as a striker, played 21 of the 22 league games and was Jena top scorer with 13 goals. These rose to the end of the season in the GDR league. Also in the league season 1952/53, Frank was part of the player base with his 27 appearances in 32 point games and eight goals. Motor Jena failed to stay up and played again in the GDR league in 1953/54. The almost 30-year-old Frank initially played the first seven league games, after which he was no longer used. After the end of the season he resigned as a competitive footballer. In his three seasons in higher-class football, he had come to 27 league games (8 goals) and 28 GDR league games (17 goals).
