Herbert Krontal

Herbert Krontal (born November 16, 1930 ) is a former German soccer player. He played in 1959 and 1960 for BSG Chemie Zeitz in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

The company sports community (BSG) Chemie Zeitz was one of the founding teams of the second-rate GDR league, which was newly established in 1950 . The Zeitz team also included 19-year-old striker Herbert Krontal. On his GDR league debut, he was used in eight games, in which he also scored two goals. In the season 1951/52 he was already part of the regular team. He played 19 of the 22 point games and was BSG Chemie's top scorer for the first time. He was also the best Zeitzer goalscorer in the seasons 1953/54 (18 hits), 1954/55 (22, also best scorer of season 2) and 1957 (calendar year season, 13). In the league seasons between 1951 and 1958, Krontal was absent from 176 point games played in only twelve games. When Chemie Zeitz made it to the GDR league in 1958, Krontal was in all 26 point games. He was always used as a left winger and contributed to the success with 14 goals. In the league season 1959 Krontal moved to the right attacking side and missed only one of the 26 point games. However, he had lost his marksmanship and only got five goals. In 1960, too, Krontal began again as a right-winger in Zeitz's second league season. After the second match day, however, he was suspended for disciplinary reasons and only came back to the team in the sixth league game. In the second half of the season he was mainly used on the left side of the storm and scored only three goals. At the end of the season, Chemie Zeitz had to relegate back to the GDR league. In 1961, GDR football was switched back to summer-spring game operations, and 39 games had to be played in the GDR league between March 1961 and June 1962. For the 30-year-old Krontal it was the last season in high-class football. He was only used in six GDR league games and only scored one goal. During the season, Krontal settled in the Federal Republic. There he was a coach at lower class clubs, z. B. he trained in the 1979/80 Altona 93 season in the fourth-class Landesliga Hamburg .
