GDR soccer league 1961/62

In the 1961/62 season , SG Dynamo Dresden and SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt were promoted to the GDR league .

mode

After the game year in football between 1955 and 1960 had been identical to the calendar year, the officials of the DFV decided in 1961 to switch the game rhythm back to the old system (autumn-spring).

Due to the longer playing time, the league was temporarily played in a triple round: All teams played 18 home and away games as well as 3 games on a neutral pitch.

Due to the expansion of the first GDR league from one to two seasons for the 1962/63 season, there was only one relegated to the second GDR league . The first three of the five seasons rose from this for the following season.
