Eberhard Schuster (born December 31, 1940 in Chemnitz ) is a former German football player . With the SC / FC Karl-Marx-Stadt he completed 261 point games in the GDR upper league and was football champion in 1967. He played three internationals in the GDR youth team .
Career
Schuster came in 1956 from Hoyerswerda , where he had played in the student team of the BSG unit , to the upper division SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt . There he went through the club's junior teams until 1958 and completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith. As a member of the first men's team, he ensured promotion to the league again in the 1961/62 season, after the Karl Marx townsfolk had previously spent several years in the second and third division. With the 1962/63 season began his time as a league player, in which the only 1.67 m tall Eberhard Schuster was mainly used as a right wing striker. His good performances in the club were rewarded with three appearances in the GDR youth national team in 1964 and 1965.
In 1967 his career was crowned by winning the GDR championship. In the successful team of the club, now known as FC Karl-Marx-Stadt, he had played all 26 point games and scored seven goals. As GDR champions, FCK had qualified for the 1967/68 European Cup season, and so Schuster was given the opportunity to play on an international level again. However, since his team failed in the first round of the cup against Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht (1: 3, 1: 2) and Schuster was only used in the second leg, this remained an international appearance at club level. After all, Schuster scored the opening goal of the Karl Marx townspeople in his European game.
In the GDR Cup competition in 1969, Schuster made it to the final with FCK, but had to accept a bitter 4-0 defeat against 1. FC Magdeburg there as a central midfielder . He experienced another disappointment in the following season when he and his team had to be relegated from the league in the summer of 1970. So he spent a year in the second division before a year later the immediate rise again succeeded. 1973/74 Schuster played his last league season. In eleven league seasons he had made 261 point games and 33 goals. Then he helped out for some time with the second team of the FCK in the district and GDR league .
Even after his active career, Schuster remained loyal to FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and later its successor Chemnitzer FC . For example, from 1994 to 2004 he coached the club's A-Juniors.
