Siegfried Gumz

Siegfried Gumz (born May 2, 1940 ) is a former German football player and coach.

Life

Siegfried Gumz, a trained glassblower , came from Thuringia and began his football career in Ilmenau . From 1960 he played in the GDR league for SG Dynamo Dresden . He made his debut on March 20, 1960. From 1962 he was a member of the first team, where he was mainly used as a midfielder . By the end of his career in 1970, he completed a total of 120 league games for the club and scored 33 goals. There were also two games in the European Cup, where he was used in 1967 when Dynamo first took part in the International Fair Cup against Glasgow Rangers .

After his active career, he initially stayed in Dresden and worked as a trainer in the junior division, as an assistant coach for the first team and was also their team leader at times. At BSG Stahl Riesa he took over the post of head coach in 1985 and then worked from 1987 to 1989 as head coach of BSG Progress Bischofswerda . During this time he managed to lead the club back into the first division of the GDR. In 1989 Gumz moved back to Thuringia for personal reasons, where he was the coach of SV Germania Ilmenau until 1991 . He then worked as a lifeguard at the local swimming pool until he retired.

Gumz was active under the code name "Klaus Stürmer" as a social security employee of the GDR State Security . He signed up in 1981. Gumz is married and lives with his wife in Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig .
