Linacre College

The Linacre College is a college of the University of Oxford , whose members fellows and postgraduate students are. The college is named after the humanist Thomas Linacre (1460-1524), founder of the Royal College of Physicians .

Around 400 students study at Linacre College, the majority of whom come from abroad and there from 50 nations. Linacre was the first college in Oxford to allow male and female students on an equal basis. There is also no formal separation between the fellows and the students. It was also the first college to be granted Fairtrade status.

Today's Linacre College was founded on August 1, 1962 as Linacre House and was given its current name in 1965. It was the third college in Oxford, after Nuffield College and St Antony's College , that only admitted graduate students. Founding members include Isaiah Berlin , Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin and John R. Hicks . On August 1, 1986, Linacre became an independent college within Oxford University through Royal Charter .
