Keble was founded in 1870 as a memorial to John Keble , an Anglican clergyman and co-founder of the Oxford Movement , a Catholic renewal movement in the Church of England .

The campus buildings were designed by William Butterfield in the style of neo-Gothic brick architecture. In a side chapel of the college chapel is the painting Light of the World by Holman Hunt .
