Kellogg College is the 36th of 38 colleges at the University of Oxford in England . It was founded in March 1990 with the financial support of the WK Kellogg Foundation and accepted its first students in 1992. In 1994 it was approved as an official college of the university and named after the American industrialist Will Keith Kellogg (1860-1951). Over the short period of its existence, the Kellogg College grew into one of the largest and most international colleges. It only accepts graduates and offers special support for part-time students. In the Michaelmas term 2017, 268 full-time students and 871 part-time students were members of the college.

history

Kellogg College is closely associated with the Department for Continuing Education as well as other faculties at the university that offer part-time courses. The historical beginnings can be found in the year 1878, when Arthur Johnson began with the so-called "Oxford Extension Lectures"; an institution that ultimately culminated in the establishment of Rewley House on March 1, 1990. The movement tried to liberalize education in Oxford and to open the university to (male) students from all religions and classes, later also to women.

Kellogg College was the first college to accept part-time students from the University of Oxford. Since many members continue to work in their jobs while studying, Kellogg tries to pay particular attention to their needs. In general, the college attaches particular importance to openness and equality and pursues comparatively egalitarian concepts (for example, by rejecting a separate high table at which the fellows of the college eat).

In November 2019, the British heir to the throne, Charles, became Prince of Wales Fellow at Kellogg College.
