Jonathan Michie

Jonathan Michie (born March 25, 1957 in London , England ) is a British economist , Professor of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer at Oxford , President of Kellogg College and Director of Lifelong Learning at Oxford University.

Life

After two years at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales , from which he graduated with an International Baccalaureate in 1973 , Michie attended Balliol College in Oxford. Here he received a “first class honors” in philosophy , politics and economics (PPE) and later a doctorate. In between, he completed an MSc with distinction in economics at Queen Mary and Westfield College of the University of London from.

From 1983 he worked in the economic department of the Trades Union Congresses , a trade union umbrella organization, and in 1988 joined the European Commission as an expert on competition issues . In 1990 he moved to academia and became a member of the Cambridge School of Economics . From 1992 to 1997 he was a University Lecturer in Accounting & Finance at the Judge Business School in Cambridge and a Fellow and Director of Studies in Economics at Robinson College . At the same time he was director of the Contract & Competition Program of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). After seven years in Cambridge, he moved to the University of London in 1997 . Here he became Rector of the School of Management & Organizational Psychology and took over the Sainsbury Chair in Management at Birkbeck College . In 2004 he moved to Birmingham as Professor of Management and became Director of the Birmingham Business School and a member of the University Council . In 2007 he finally took over the position of President of Kellogg College and, consequently, the role of Director of Lifelong Learning at Oxford University. He is a professor for innovation and knowledge transfer. He is the head of the Property Commission established at Oxford University.

Jonthan Michie is a member of the Academy of Social Sciences and a member of the Enterprise and Skills Strategic Advisory Committee of the Higher Education Funding Council for England HEFCE . He is the editor of various academic journals including The Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy & Society ISSN  1752-1386 .

Jonathan Michie is the son of biologist Dame Anne McLaren and computer scientist Donald Michie . He is married to Carolyn Downs , who is Deputy Permanent Secretary and Director General for Corporate Performance in the Justice Department. They have two sons and live in Oxford.
