The Thomas Magnete GmbH is a leading manufacturer of Erstausrüstungskomponenten for the automotive industry and the mobile hydraulics industry . The company also develops and produces devices for medical technology .
Products and locations
Thomas develops and produces electromagnetic and fluidic actuator systems for the automotive and mobile hydraulics industries. The products are used in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, construction, forestry and agricultural machinery. The fields of application of the components are engine management, transmission management, exhaust management, thermal management and mobile hydraulics. With metering pumps for the fuel metering of auxiliary heaters and exhaust aftertreatment Thomas is a world leader.
The head office and production site is Herdorf in Rhineland-Palatinate . The company has other locations in the USA , China and Italy . In addition, it has been operating its own technology laboratory in Dresden since 2015 in cooperation with the local Technical University . In 2019 another production site was opened in Rennerod, Rhineland-Palatinate.
history
The company was founded in 1962 by Hermann Thomas in Herdorf as a subsidiary of Robert Thomas Metall- und Elektrowerke GmbH. The first product to be developed was a proportional magnet for spin dryers . 1972 the formation of an independent GmbH followed .
In 1982, Dietrich Thomas, the founder's son, joined the family business as chairman of the management board. Shortly afterwards, the first system application with metering pump for auxiliary heaters in series manufactured. One-piece-flow assembly lines were introduced, after which the series production of a specially developed proportional pressure reducing valve began. In 1998, the company founded its first foreign sales subsidiary in the USA .
In 2003 Markus Krauss joined the management. Proportional magnets for camshaft adjusters were manufactured on the first fully automatic assembly line. Further series production of proportional solenoids and valves for dual clutch transmissions and metering pumps for diesel particulate filter regeneration followed. In 2012, a new production and logistics building with an area of 7000 m² was built and a sales location was opened in Italy and China. In 2016 a new production building with an area of 8100 m² followed. Two years later, on May 5, 2018, the company inaugurated another production building "Innomotion Park 2" with a further 8,000 m².
